March 1st
Today I have been following a group of Media Production students with my camera, just to get some pictures for Jason’s website. I wanted to get pictures of students working in a professional area, and these students were working in a studio in the Ellen Terry Building.
In order for us to use these pictures, I had to get Jason to send me some forms through which the students would have to sign. Unfortunately Jason was busy with his radio show at the time and was unavailable to answer his phone, so I had to use my initiative and make up my own forms using a template I got from some of my Media Student friends.
I spent the best part of the day writing out these forms, printing them off and taking pictures, but I was really pleased with the work I had done. I feel like I have proven to myself that I can work efficiently on my own when I put the effort in, which, in this instance, has become rewarding.
While speaking to Jason on the phone telling him what I had done, he told me how impressed he was, and emphasised the importance of the forms. He said if I hadn’t used my initiative to make my own forms and didn’t hand anything out, he could not use the pictures on his website, and my whole days work would have gone to waste.
I also told Jason that i felt like I wasn’t doing enough work, and he responded in a positive manner. He told me that we would be having another meeting soon so he could give me more jobs, which I pleased with.
Overall I am pleased with the progress I am making with this experience. It is difficult with the nature of the work, because I am juggling between this and other modules. However, this experience is proving to me that I can manage my time well, and, after today, it has given me more confidence approaching people. This is something I am going to need and will use throughout my potential career as a journalist.
